Class Teacher - Mrs Clarke

Class Teacher

My name is Mrs Clarke and I teach the Year 2/3 Lotherton class. As the school’s Art and DT Leader, I strongly believe that creativity plays an important role in all areas of learning. In our classroom, students are encouraged to explore ideas, think creatively, and learn through hands-on experiences. We value curiosity, effort and learning from mistakes. Our classroom is a supportive environment where students are encouraged to have a go, work collaboratively and develop confidence as learners.

Learning in Our Classroom

In the mornings, students are taught in year groups for key learning areas. Year 2 students take part in Little Wandle phonics sessions, while Year 3 students participate in a reading workshop focused on developing comprehension and reading skills. Maths is also taught in year groups to ensure learning is targeted and appropriate for each year level.

English writing and afternoon learning sessions are taught in mixed year groups. This allows students to learn collaboratively, share ideas, and benefit from working with peers across year levels. Lessons are carefully planned to support and challenge all learners.

English Writing

We aim to make English engaging and memorable for all students. Writing units are based on high-quality, exciting texts that inspire imagination and creativity. Where appropriate, we bring stories to life through simple role-play and themed experiences, such as wearing BFG ears, to help students immerse themselves in the text and develop their ideas.

These experiences support students in building vocabulary, confidence, and enthusiasm for writing.

Mathematics

In Maths, we follow the Power Maths programme to support a structured and progressive approach to learning. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build understanding step by step, ensuring that key concepts are secure before moving on.

Students are encouraged to explain their thinking, use mathematical vocabulary, and apply their knowledge to a range of problems. We focus on developing fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills to build confidence and a secure understanding of number.

Homework & Home Learning

Homework is designed to support learning in class and help students build independent study habits.

Maths: Weekly homework is set on Google Classroom. Tasks may include quizzes, songs, or other interactive activities to help students practice and remember key concepts.

Spelling: Termly spelling lists are provided on Google Classroom. Spelling is also taught weekly in class, where students learn to apply their spelling knowledge within their writing.
